'Off to see the Wizard:' Kalie Kaimann, star of 'Wizard of Oz,' chats about Dorothy, Toto, touring

"The Wizard of Oz" is in Raleigh through Sunday for multiple shows at the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts. And I had a chance on Wednesday to chat with the show's star, Kalie Kaimann, who plays Dorothy.

Kaimann previously played this role for the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati in her hometown. She has also performed as Bonnie in Anything Goes, Logainne in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Ulla in The Producers, Millie Dilmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and Minnie Fay in Hello Dolly!

We chatted about the show, the amazing wigs and costumes, traveling across the country on tour and what it's like working with Murphy, the adorable little dog who plays Toto. Watch the video to hear more!

The show runs about 2 hours and 25 minutes, including the 15-minute intermission. Duke Energy Center's website has more information and ticket details.

And, for those with autism or other special needs, there's a social narrative so kids and others will know what to expect and can prepare for the theater experience.
