RALEIGH, N.C. — “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert has donated more than $400,000 to Hurricane Florence relief from sales of a book inspired by President Donald Trump’s trip to North Carolina following the devastating storm.

In a Facebook post Thursday night, Gov. Roy Cooper posted a photo of a check for $412,412 made out to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund next to a photo of Colbert’s book “Whose Boat is This Boat? Comments That Don’t Help in the Aftermath of a Hurricane”.

The spoof-book’s title and contents were inspired by Trump’s comments last September regarding a boat that had washed up in a New Bern resident’s yard following Hurricane Florence.

Trump told the owner of the home where the yacht washed up, “At least you got a good boat out of the deal” and “Have a good time.”

In his Facebook post, Cooper says “All barbecue jokes aside, a huge thank you to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for donation a portion of the proceeds from his book to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund.”

The mention of barbeque is a reference to comments from Colbert, who grew up in South Carolina, making fun of North Carolina barbeque.
