RALEIGH, N.C. — Job placement experts say the hospitality industry is bursting at the seams, so a company is offering free job training and certification to meet the increased demand for employees.

"A lot of local service providers – restaurants, cafes – are in need of workers," said J.P. Sakey, president and chief executive of Headway Workforce Solutions.

The company has developed the Headway Chops program to solve the challenge of filling those positions, offering entry-level job training to anyone interested in hospitality certification.

"We train them hard for about 90 minutes every night for three nights, give them a little certification, and hopefully it will help them in the job market – it will help us place them in the job market," Sakey said.

Zylvia Lawson attended the inaugural Headway Chops session a several weeks ago. With the certification, she said she went from working at two-star bars all night long to working in five-star fine-dining spots.

"It allowed me to get better jobs – better jobs and better pay," Lawson said. "It introduced me to a whole new world."

Another Headway Chops session starts Tuesday in Durham.
