Ed Davis, another North Carolina signee ready to suit up for the Tar Heels' basketball team season, said Monday that he doesn’t know which, if any, current Carolina players will be turning pro.

Davis, a native of Richmond Va., is one of three incoming McDonald’s All-Americas for the Heels and the son of former NBA player Terry Davis.

“I do [keep in contact with them a lot], but it’s more just how they’re doing and stuff like that,” said Davis, a power forward who is 6 feet 8 and 215 pounds.

The announcements of the future plans by Ty Lawson, Tyler Hansbrough and Wayne Ellington might be revealed at the team’s end-of-season awards ceremony on Thursday, but Davis said he won’t know until the announcements are made which of the three will be teaming up with him next year.

Davis said he was invited to attend the ceremony with this year’s team, but will have to miss it due to his participating in a tournament that same day.

But for the record, Davis hopes Hansbrough returns for one final year.

“I want him to stay. I’ve got to get better and I can do that if I battle with him. [Hansbrough returning] is going to help me and the team so I want him to stay,” Davis said.

“I want to play, but if I get playing time when it’s my turn then I’ll be a happy man.”
