Wake Forest-Rolesville High graduate Jordan Walor shot a 2-under 69 at The Rex Hospital Open’s annual Pro-Junior Invitational and earned a sponsor’s exemption into the Nationwide Tour field.
Walor, the 2008 Cap 7 Conference’s Player of the Year, earned medalist honors by a stroke over Daniel Meggs of Charlotte Butler High at the TPC Wakefield Plantation course. Walor’s round featured five birdies, including at the par-5 13th and 18th holes.
The low girls’ round of the day was shot by Courtney Gunter of Porter Ridge High in Matthews. Gunter, the 2008 Girls 1A/2A/3A champion, shot a 2-over 73, two shots better than Meghan Moore of Bahama.
RED, WHITE AND DUKE BLUE: There was a distinct Duke flavor on the victorious U.S. Curtis Cup team this week.
The eight-player team that defeated Great Britain and Ireland 13-7 on Sunday at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, featured three Duke members — juniors Amanda Blumenherst and Jennie Lee, and incoming freshman Mina Harigae.
Blumenherst earned 3.5 points for the week, while Harigae earned 2 points and Lee earned a half point in Sunday's singles match.
HONOR ROLL: The Golf Coaches Association of America announces its Ping All-Region teams. Members of the South team feature Chesson Hadley of Raleigh and Georgia Tech, Matt Hill of N.C. State, Kevin O’Connell of Cary and North Carolina, Michael Schachner of Duke, and Webb Simpson of Raleigh and Wake Forest. … The honors keep piling up for Duke's Amanda Blumenherst. In recent weeks she has been crowned the Ping NGCA Player of the Year, received the Golfstat Cup, been named winner of the Dinah Shore Trophy, and selected first team All-America, NGCA All-East Region and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III first team. ... Duke teammate Jennie Lee was named second team NGCA All-America.

The winners of the boys’ and girls’ division of the Carolinas Junior PGA Championship qualify to join more than 150 of the nation’s top junior golfers at the Junior PGA Championship, Aug. 13-16, at TPC River’s Bend in Cincinnati, Ohio.
