Medlin: Jayhawks Hand Heels a Texas-Sized Defeat

It was rock, chalk and a whole lotta Jayhawk.

And for Carolina fans, it was not a pretty sight.

Kansas hit the Tar Heels with a basketball blitz, leading 40-12 at one point and leaving Carolina bewildered.

“This is the first time this North Carolina team panicked,” said junior Marcus Ginyard. “Kansas threw the biggest challenge at us we have seen and it took too long for us to respond.”

It was the last thing I thought I would see this weekend. If anything, I thought Kansas would be the team coming out tight.

Looks like I was about as wrong as wrong can be.

Kansas had every reason to be distracted. Their alumni base wanted a victory over Roy Williams more than anything, and the pressure to win this game had to be severe. Top that off with Oklahoma State’s interest in hiring coach Bill Self away from KU, and you have all the ingredients for a team to be shell-shocked.

But instead,

Live Blog: Bad Start Equals Bitter Finish for UNC

11:02 p.m.,  Kansas versus Memphis for the National Championship. North Carolina put on a comeback that falls way short, it is tough to say the final score was a real reflection of the game, but it was. The Jayhawks played the game that I think most people expected the Heels to come out with and run away from the Jayhawks. Heels had problems on the outside and had no answer for the screen and roll. Now an offseason of who stays and who goes will be whispered around Chapel Hill all summer. One just has to wonder what happened to the Heels team that was so dominant in the tournament, that is a question that will haunt Carolina fans for a long time. At least Kansas will get over the Roy thing and I will never have to read another comment about this team versus 2005. I think that arguement was settled tonight.

Final Score from San Antonio: Kansas 84 UNC 66

10:55p.m.,  Carolina put on a run, but from an earlier thought,

Live Blog: Hansbrough's Best Game

11:12 p.m. Hansbrough's Best Game:

Given the quality of the opponent, the importance of the game, and the array of skills he showed, I think this was Tyler Hansbrough's best game in a Carolina uniform. He had to guard a very good post player in David Padgett, who he held to 6 points, and had 28 points and 13 rebounds of his own.

Everyone knocks him for being a good college player and having a game that won't translate to the pros, but anybody who saw him knock down the two jumpers from just inside the three-point line, the second of which off a pump-fake right over Padgett, can see that the kid has expanded his overall game.

The hustle was always there, but he showed everyone in the country that he has the diverse offensive skill set necessary to lead his team to a final four against a very game Louisville club.

Carolina wins 83-73

Huge three for number five to push the lead to seven. Needless

Live Blog: Next Stop for UNC is Elite 8

9:27p.m. Dominant!  Got it right this time.  Heels win it by 21, 68-47, very impressive performance especially defensively.  Next up Louisville or Tennessee, but it might not matter if the Heels keep playing at this level.  Good night and drive home safely!

9:24p.m. They are clearing the bench.  This one came much easier than 2005.  It was the round of 16 where Villanova felt like they had one stolen from them in a one-point loss to the Heels.

9:22p.m. Big time Onions!  I love Bill Rafferty, the man is pure entertainment.  WVU ties Xavier w/12 seconds left but unable to finish the three point play.  Headed to OT, while UNC is headed to the Sweet 16.

9:15p.m. WSU had a good defense game plan early, but never had any juice offensively to take advantage of UNC's slow start on offense.  North Carolina has been flat out dominate in their first

Blog: Heels Have Pig Roast

7:47 p.m., UNC 108 Arkansas 77:  Just a simple statement of domination. 11 players score, dominant defense, excellent execution on offense and playing like the best team in the nation. This is one of those weekends that Carolina might never want to see end. Clearly the best team in the country wears Carolina Blue, but next week is a new challenge and waiting in Charlotte will be a good Washington State team and then Louisville or Tennessee, proving again why this tournament is fantastic. I said a few months ago that UNC is the most complete team in NCAA, after this weekend they might have proved me right, but the heat and fun will be turned up next weekend, can't wait for Thursday. Positives for the Heels, Ty Lawson is back, Wayne Ellington is in a zone, Tyler Hansbrough is the player of the year, Quentin Thomas provides solid point play in relief of Lawson and this Heels team is deep. Negatives? I can't find any. Thanks to everyone who posted responses!
