Sharpsburg mayor arrested on third DWI charge since 2018
Sharpsburg Mayor Robert Williams was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Tuesday night.
Posted — UpdatedIt's the third time since 2018 Williams has faced DWI charges as an elected official.
The town offered a statement on the matter on Wednesday.
“Mayor Williams was arrested for DWI, possession of an open container, failing to comply with a restriction on his license, resisting arrest, and related charges last evening.”
“Anybody that is using alcohol or drugs, I feel sorry for them," said voter Tom Booth. "I want them to get some help.”
“I don’t think he should be in office," Booth said. "The night he got elected, he was caught drunk driving. That should have been the signal then.”
Williams was re-elected in 2021. His current term will expire in November 2025.
This is a developing story.
