The director of a small, local ministry that helps the homeless in Raleigh is in need of help of her own after a small fire on Saturday damaged a house she planned to open for homeless women.

The house, which is now in ruins, was supposed to help rebuild lives and serve as the first step toward the second chance for six women.

“They’re ready to come back into society. They’re ready to get started. They have jobs,” Minister Brenda Jackson said.

Jackson owns the South Bloodworth Street house and is the person who started Plant a Seed Ministries, which provides shelter and services for homeless women.

Six women were set to move into the home in the coming weeks, before the fire damaged the building.

“They’re actually going to come out and be homeless and probably end up in the shelters that are probably full,” Jackson said.

Jackson, who lives next door to the house she planned to open, was giving clothes and showers to the homeless Saturday afternoon when the fire started in the kitchen.

Jackson’s daughter, Tiffany, was already living in the house that burned. Her clothes and furniture were still covered in soot Sunday morning.

“It’s like all of our life, all my life, my parents have been helping everyone and now it’s me on the other end of that giving tree,” Tiffany Jackson said.

Nobody was inside the home at the time of the fire, and authorities said the house, which was not insured, is not a total loss.

Now, Brenda Jackson is raising funds through a GoFundMe page to restore the house and keep her mission alive.

“This is what I was preparing it for, to help them continue on their journey in life. I really need the help,” she said.
