Raleigh man charged in fatal Surf City crash

A Raleigh man was charged Monday in connection with a fatal crash in Surf City over the weekend, police said.

HOLLY RIDGE, N.C. — A Raleigh man was charged Monday in connection with a fatal crash in Surf City over the weekend, police said.

Travis Luckinbill, 20, was eastbound on N.C. Highway 50 at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday when his 2006 Jeep Wrangler crossed the center line and collided with a 2015 Toyota Pruis driven by Robin Blakenship of Sneads Ferry, police said.

Blakenship died at the scene, and her 2-year-old son was taken to New Hanover Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said. His condition was unknown Monday.

Luckinbill and his passenger also were taken to the Wilmington hospital for treatment.

Luckinbill, a student at East Carolina University, was released from the hospital on Monday and was charged with felony death by motor vehicle, felony serious injury by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, driving after consuming an impairing substance by a person less than 21 years of age, driving left of center, possession of unfortified wine by a 19- or 20-year-old, having an open container of malt beverage, possession of a fraudulent identification card, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (MDMA/Ecstasy), possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (Adderall), possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Xanax), possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana) and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was being held in the Pender County jail under a $100,000 bond.
