Raleigh florist helps mom make memories of son's police academy graduation

RALEIGH, N.C. — The mother of a new Raleigh police officer is feeling grateful after a local florist stepped up so she could have memories of her son's police academy graduation.

Diana Marcotte, who lives in Maine, had planned to travel to Raleigh on Friday to see her son Eric graduate from the city's police academy but couldn't make it because of health issues.

Marcotte wanted to send her son flowers the same day to let him know she was thinking of him. She called several florists trying to place an order Friday morning and finally reached The English Garden Florist of Raleigh.

Instead of simply delivering the flowers, the delivery driver, Cam, captured photos and videos of the graduation for the out-of-state mom.

"I thought they were going to just drop it off, that somebody there would give it to him on the way out -- but they went even further than that," Marcotte said. "They took a video and sent pictures to me. I was just like 'My god, this is way more than I ever expected.'"

Marcotte said her son told her he was the only one to receive flowers at the graduation.

She said she's very grateful to The English Garden Florist for making the day memorable not only for her son but for her as well.

The English Garden Florist told their side of the story on Facebook, praising their staff member Cam.

"As a team, we decided that Cam should stay and watch Eric graduate," the florist wrote on Facebook. "Cam happily obliged. He took pictures and video to send back to Mom in Maine. After the ceremony he got to meet one of Raleigh’s newest officers, shake his hand and deliver the gift of flowers and chocolate from his mom."

Cam later said he “wanted to be there to represent any folks who could not watch their kids graduate today because sometimes it doesn’t matter where love and support come from.”
