TROY, N.C. — Friends and family members of the late Allisha Watts gathered Tuesday for a prayer vigil in her honor.

Wednesday marks five months since Watts’ body was found. Authorities found Watts’ remains on Aug. 24, 2023, deep in the woods in Norman, a small town along Interstate 74 near the line separating Richmond and Montgomery counties.

Watts' friend, Dot Brower, was among the people Tuesday who spoke outside the Montgomery County Courthouse.

"Though we are small today, we are mighty," Brower said. "We are yet in another season and we still have the same questions, when we will get justice for Allisha Watts?"

People mourning Watts said the goal of Tuesday’s vigil is to keep her name in the spotlight as they await a trial.

Watts' cousin, Tea Hines, also spoke Tuesday.

"She hasn't died in our hearts," Hines said. "She's always going to be there."

On Sept. 14, 2023, a judge found probably cause in charging Watts’ boyfriend, James Dunmore, with her murder.

Dunmore, 51, is due in court on Monday. As of Tuesday, it is unclear if the case will be continued as prosecutors prepare for trial.

"We want Allisha's murderer to get all of what he should get," Brower said.

Digital evidence from a cell phone led investigators to find Watts’ body by a cemetery in rural Montgomery County, which is about 20 minutes from Watts’ home in Moore County.

Investigators say Watts' body had been there since July 18, 2023, which was two days after she was last seen in Charlotte with Dunmore.

Watts' friends and family said Tuesday that they believe information from prosecutors has been minimal.

"There has to be more investigation and there has to be more accountability," Brower said.

Watts' family is still awaiting the autospy results, which would reveal the manner of her death.
