FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two people in a Corvette died Friday morning when the driver crashed the car into another vehicle in Fayetteville, police said.

Police said the crash happened just before 9 a.m. on Cliffdale Road near South Reilly Road. The driver of the 2006 Corvette, identified as Jerome Simmons, crossed over the center median and crashed into a 2016 Kia Sorento that was traveling the opposite direction.

Simmons, 43, and his passenger, Stephen C. Borth, 22, both of Fayetteville, were pronounced dead, and the driver of the Sorento, Gaylene M. Dietrich, 69, of Fayetteville, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries. She was listed in good condition on Friday afternoon.

Cliffdale Road was closed until 1 p.m. while authorities investigated the crash but reopened just after noon.
