Operation Christmas Child aims to collect donations for needy children

Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Samaritan's Purse is on a mission to make a difference for thousands of needy children this Christmas.
The organization, based in Boone, N.C., on Monday launched Operation Christmas Child. It is an effort to gather shoe boxes that will be filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items. The boxes will be delivered to children in need around the world.
Officials at Samaritan's Purse said they hope to collect over 172,000 shoe box gifts this week, and that's just from the collection sites in Raleigh. Donors can drop the donations off from Nov. 13-20 in the Triangle.
