GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A fatal crash closed U.S. Highway 117 in both directions for more than two hours Saturday evening in Goldsboro.

A 2004 Ford Freestar van traveling south in the northbound lane collided head-on at about 5:30 p.m. with a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck towing a trailer, authorities said.

A passenger in the van, Alexandria Barraza, 17, of Mount Olive, was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment of critical injuries.

The driver of the Silverado, Michael Mckinny, 22, of Wilson, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

A 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Willis Levis Smith, 61, of Goldsboro, was struck by debris from the initial collision and sustained minor damage. He wasn't hurt.
