One dead, two injured in Saturday night crash in Lee County, troopers say

Troopers said 32-year-old Davis Anugo was traveling south on the highway in a 2008 Ford Escape SUV when an SUV, driven by 25-year-old Lucas Crump, crossed left of center and hit Anuo head-on. After the initial crash, Crump sideswiped a 2012 Nissan Versa traveling behind Anungo.

LEE COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities on Sunday said a man died in a crash late Saturday night in Lee County.

According to the State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 11:11 p.m. on Saturday on N.C. 87 near Frank Wicker Road in Lee County.

Troopers said 32-year-old Davis Anugo was traveling south on the highway in a 2008 Ford Escape SUV when an SUV, driven by 25-year-old Lucas Crump, crossed left of center and hit Anuo head-on. After the initial crash, Crump sideswiped a 2012 Nissan Versa traveling behind Anungo.

Anungo died from his injuries at the scene.

Crump and a woman passenger in his car suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. EMS transported them to local treatment facilities.

The driver of the Versa was uninjured.

Authorities said the collision is still under investigation, and troopers will meet Monday with the Lee County District Attorney’s Office regarding possible charges.
