Two years after opening its first location in Durham, Notasium, the play space and music school, is making plans to open a second one in Cary.

Preston Clarke, owner, tells me that he's been eager to expand to serve the Raleigh area.

"People have driven in from Raleigh and Cary for the the play space periodically but not for weekly lessons and classes," he tells me. "Now they will be able to because we will be a few minutes from downtown Cary and under 15 from downtown Raleigh."

After a successful online fundraising campaign, Notasium opened along Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham in August 2015. The location offers music classes and programs, including group and individual lessons and adult-child classes for kids as young as 12 months. Notasium also hosts birthday parties and lots of camp options.

But families also can go there to play for a fee. A music-themed indoor play space features a variety of ways to play - and learn a bit about music. That includes a giant guitar fretboard that kids can climb up, playing notes along the way, and slide down; a beat kitchen where kids can bang on all sorts of pots and pans; and more.

The Cary location will be at 1000 Ryan Rd. in Village Square across from Cary Towne Center and just off of Interstate 40. The opening is scheduled for January 2018. An online fundraising campaign isn't planned for this location, but there will be a pre-sale for certain services as it gets closer to the opening date. You can get the latest on Notasium Cary's Facebook page.
