Detours, Street Closures Planned in Downtown Raleigh This Weekend

Traffic downtown will be heavily affected on the weekend of April 18 through April 20. Several events downtown will force detours and street closures.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Traffic downtown will be heavily affected on the weekend of April 18 through April 20. Several events downtown will force detours and street closures.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, until 12 a.m. on Sunday, a section of East Jones Street and East Edenton Street will be closed for the Planet Earth Celebration. Barricades will be in place to block the roadway.

On Saturday, the 1100 block of South Saunders Street between Grissom Street and Hamel Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Customer Appreciation Day at Ray Price Harley Davidson.

The Wake County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will be holding its Ninth Annual K9 3K dog walk. Festivities will start at 2 p.m. and the dog walk will begin at 4 p.m. The starting line is on Martin Street at Moore Square.

Walkers will travel west on Martin Street and then north on Fayetteville Street. They will turn right on Morgan Street, left on Wilmington Street, right on Jones Street and right on Blount Street to return to Moore Square.

The Inaugural Capital City Classic 10,000 meter run will also be held on Saturday. The runners will begin on Fayetteville Street and travel north to Morgan Street, turn left on Person Street, turn left onto Chestnut Street, turn left onto Blount Street, turn right onto Edenton Street, turn left onto Salisbury Street, right onto Martin Street, left onto Dawson Street and then looping back onto McDowell Street near the Western Boulevard overpass.
