Tara StanfordShades of Green
Tara Stanford explores what being “green” really means? How can I become greener? Do I have to trade my car to be green? Can I wear make-up and still be green? Is it easy to incorporate “greenness” into my daily life? What are the benefits of being green; is it really going to make a difference? Can I green-up my lifestyle and still take advantage of my own luxuries?

Shades of green: Recycle your Crocs

Green meter: light green

SolesUnited (sm) is a program that allows you to recycle your old, tread-bare Crocs.  According to Crocs, "SolesUnitedSM, the first-of-its-kind recycled footwear donation program, is dedicated to providing new recycled shoes to people in need around the world."  The recycled Crocs are donated worldwide via a number of charities; the next recipient is YéleHaiti, a charity established by musician Wyclef Jean to aid his homeland.

All styles of Crocs are accepted.  Donating your old Crocs is as easy as mailing a package.  Unfortunately there are no donation location in the Triangle area.  Our closest donation locations are in Wilson (Flower Shoes), Goldsboro (Plantation Shoppe) and in Greenville (Overton's Inc. and The Shoes Crate).  You can find more details about donation locations on the "find participation retailers" link on the SolesUnited(sm) website.  If are in the Triangle (like me), you can mail your shoes into the SolesUnited(sm):

Crocs Recycling - East
1500 Commodity Blvd.
Lockbourne, OH 43137

SolesUnited(sm) Crocs can be purcahsed on the Crocs website for both adults and children.

I have a new pair of Crocs on order and arriving any day, and I plan to mail my old, dirty worn out Crocs back to be made new again.
