A new hair salon for kids is open in north Raleigh.

Cookie Cutters Haircuts for Kids is now located at 6300 Creedmoor Rd., north Raleigh. The shop opened last week and aims to offer a fun-filled, welcoming environment for kids.

Matt and Angela Murphy, Raleigh parents, own the local franchise of Cookie Cutters, which is part of a national chain and the first for Raleigh. They plan to open two more in the area in the next 18 to 24 months, according to a press release.

According to the release, the chain was one of the first children-only hair salons in the United States and offers an "interactive" haircut experience with an in-store playground; chairs that look like race cars and other vehicles; and TVs for kids to watch shows or play video games as they get their hair cut. They also leave with a balloon and a lollipop.

Of note for parents with kids with special needs or sensory issues, all stylists will receive special training provided by professionals from the autism community.

“We fell in love with the Cookie Cutters concept and its successful business model right away,” said Angela Murphy in the press release. “As parents, providing kids in our community with an enjoyable salon experience is our number one priority.”

Cookie Cutters in Raleigh is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays; and noon to 5 p.m., Sundays. For more information or to book an appointment, call 919-581-5008.
