RALEIGH, N.C. — A gas leak closed multiple lanes on a busy stretch of New Bern Avenue in Raleigh for hours on Monday.

The city confirmed the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Clarendon Crescent was closed while crews work to repair the leak.

Authorities said all lanes of New Bern Avenue were opened just around 10:21 p.m.

Dominion Energy crews are working to repair the leak after an unaffiliated construction worker hit a gas line.

Dominion Energy crews sealed the leak and began to repair the damaged line.

The closure was near Enloe High School and Appletree Day Care. Raleigh fire crews said surrounding residents are in no danger, but the day care was evacuated as a precaution.

Some businesses closed their doors on Monday due to the gas leak because customers were unable to reach them. One WakeMed employee said the closure cause them to be late to work.
