RALEIGH, N.C. — Freshmen Trea Turner and Carlos Rodon accepted invitations from USA Baseball to represent USA’s Collegiate National Team this summer, announced Wednesday.

Turner holds the NC State single-season record with 41 stolen bases, and currently leads the nation by a margin of seven. In addition to his talent on the base paths, Turner sports State’s second-best batting average at .355 and leads the team with a .460 OBP.

Rodon was named the Top Freshman of the Midseason by Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt. In addition, Rodon stands as the lone freshman on the Golden Spikes Award watch list, and one of three freshmen on the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Pitcher of the Year watch list.

The Holly Springs, N.C. native has quickly cemented his place in the NC State record books in his first year with the Pack, setting the freshman single-season strikeout record with 97. Rodon’s 8-0 record establishes him as one of seven undefeated pitchers with 8 or more wins in the NCAA.

Team USA has started the process of finalizing the 2012 schedule, highlighted by visits to Cuba and The Netherlands, and including 10 games in the state of North Carolina. The schedule can be viewed in its entirety here: http://web.usabaseball.com/events/schedule.jsp?type=team_nat_coll

Turner and Rodon mark the first NC State players to suit up for the national team since Eric Surkamp in 2007. They join seven other players from around the nation who have already committed to playing this summer.
