LENOIR, N.C. — Staff at a North Carolina restaurant were overjoyed from a customer's act of kindness.

A customer went out of his way to make sure his server got a proper tip from a meal he and his wife enjoyed days earlier and the act is getting social media attention.

The man, whose first name is Ted, apparently took the wrong copy of his credit card receipt with him, leading the server to not get the tip they intended to leave her with. Ted realized his mistake days later when checking his bank statement, which revealed a lesser charge. He then took the time to write a letter explaining the situation and include a more appropriate tip.

A Facebook post by Side Street Pour House and Grill in Lenoir talked about the gesture.

"Our servers work hard to give our customers excellent dining experiences and earn their tips, but sometimes either accidentally (like this example) or intentionally (which is really not cool) they find themselves left without. That's why we are loving this letter so much — it's is a beautiful example of how to do the right thing!!"

A $20 bill for the server was included with the letter.

"That was no way for either of us to end 2023. Here's to a fresh start," Ted wrote.

The act shows it's never too late to make something right. The post had garnered more than 4,000 shares as of Thursday morning.
