On Wednesday, Bacote's attorneys will discuss the significance of the upcoming hearing and its implications for all death penalty cases in the state.
The hearing is scheduled to start Monday in Johnston County.
Bacote was sentenced to death in April 2009 after he was found guilty of first-degree murder in the February 2007 death of Anthony Surles during a robbery in Selma.
