<b>BERTIE COUNTY, N.C.</b> — An Eastern Carolina man is accused of taking out nearly $2 million worth of life insurance policies in other people’s names.

Alston was arrested after a yearlong investigation with the help of Bertie County deputies and the Bertie County District Attorney’s Office.

The 63-year-old man is accused of submitting 38 policy claims after those people passed away with payouts totaling over $140,000.
