RALEIGH, N.C. — After a rainy Sunday afternoon and a damp Super Bowl evening, Monday will be bright and cooler, according to WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth.

Despite a wet Sunday, the week ahead will be dry. "The bulk of rain has moved out of the area," said Wilmoth. "We saw anywhere from a 1/2 inch to an inch of rain, so we got a good soaking."

Overnight skies will be clear, leading in to a sunny Monday, but Wilmoth said it will get colder.

7-Day Forecast

"It will be a beautiful bright day tomorrow, but our high temperature will only be in the mid-40s, so it will be a chilly day," said Wilmoth. Warmer weather will set in again on Tuesday and Wednesday, when highs will be in the upper 50s and low 60s.

Several lanes on Triangle highways were closed Sunday evening due to standing water and excess rain that fell for much of the afternoon.

By 4 p.m., two left lanes on Interstate-440 east were closed and the left lane on Interstate-440 west was closed near Capital Boulevard (Exit 11). In Cary on U.S. 1, the southbound left lane was closed at Exit 99 near Cary Parkway, but it reopened by 8 p.m.

Although the rain moved out of the Triangle in time for the big game, area roads remain wet, and people heading home from the game should drive with caution.
