Air Force airman arrested in fatal hit-and-run of moped driver in Goldsboro
A Goldsboro man has been arrested following an overnight hit-and-run crash in which a moped driver was killed, authorities said Saturday.
Posted — UpdatedTerrence Lowell Walker was rushed to UNC Healthcare in Wayne County after he was struck by an SUV shortly before 3 a.m. at Slocumb Street and Olivia Lane, police said in a written statement. The man died after being taken to the hospital.
Investigators said Lukumon Charles Rasaki, an Airman First Class assigned to a readiness squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base,was charged with felony hit and run in connection with the fatal crash. He was taken into custody and transported to the Wayne County Detention Center before being released on a $20,000 bond. He was schedule to make a first court appearance on Monday, police said.
According to police, Walker's moped was driving through the intersection "against a red light" when his moped collided with Rasaki's 2007 Toyota Highlander. Walker was knocked off the bike and fell to the ground. Rasaki did not stop and left the scene of the crash following the accident, the police statement said.
Police were able to identify the vehicle that struck Walker and traced it backed to Rasaki, who was taken into custody at his home.
The Air Force issued a written statement acknowledging the accident.
