MEBANE, N.C.WXII reports traffic concerns in Mebane are one of the main reasons people are opposed to Buc-ee's coming to the area.
The Buc-ee's will be on a 34-acre site along Trollingwood Hawfields Road near Interstate 40 and Interstate 85.
Mebane Mayor Ed Hooks told WXII changes need to be made there ahead of the mega-store's arrival.

A study by the North Carolina Department of Transportation found the agency will need to add more lanes to the area, plus widen the existing bridge overpass and add more signals.

"There will need to be interchange improvements at the Trollingwood I-40 85 interchange, which consists of additional lanes at the interchange and on the ramps, and actually included a need to widen the existing bridge overpass over the interstate and then additional through lanes on Trollingwood Hawfield Road as well as additional signalization," NCDOT Division Engineer Chuck Edwards said.

Hooks said he's on board with the plan to move forward.

The city is waiting for the engineering construction drawings and NCDOT's final road plans before construction can start.

Hooks said he hopes a groundbreaking can take place as soon as June or July.
