FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson's gubernatorial campaign rally scheduled for Saturday evening has been moved to a new location after the initial venue, Crossroads Church, cancelled the event.

The rally will now be held at Freedom Christian Academy in Fayetteville, according to Robinson's X account (formerly known as Twitter).

Crossroads Church was initially scheduled to host a rally but canceled the event, according the Fayetteville Observer.

On Crossroads website, the church labels itself as welcoming and inclusive of all people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Robinson has labeled homosexuality and transgenderism as "filth." In a November 2021 speech at a Winston-Salem church, he questioned the purpose of homosexuality.

"Will somebody please explain to me the purpose of homosexuality? ... What does it create? It creates nothing," Robinson said.

Church leadership became aware that the campaign would be renting the church out, then revoked the space.

Some analysts believe Robinson’s comments could alienate critical suburban voters in his bid to become North Carolina's first Black governor.
