RALEIGH, N.C. — A man and a woman were taken to WakeMed Thursday night after being attacked by a pit bull, according to Eric Curry with the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

According to Curry, deputies responded to 5415 Kyle Drive, in Raleigh, at about 7:30 p.m., in response to an animal attack.

When deputies entered the home, they found Rodriquez Battle on the ground with a "large pit bull" on top of him. He was pleading for help, Curry said.

The deputies shot and killed the dog.

While at the home, deputies also found a woman who had been attacked by the animal. She was able to escape to a bathroom.

Both Battle and the woman were taken to WakeMed.

The dog belonged to Battle's cousin, deputies said.

The dog was taken away by Animal Control.
