Man surrenders to police, ending 15-hour standoff at west Cary home

Around midnight, Cary police officers responded to a home at Remington Oaks Circle and Del Mar Oaks Drive.

Very limited details were available, but a spokesperson for the Cary Police Department said a man inside the home alone was refusing to come out for medical treatment.

Around 4:12 p.m., the man came out of the home and was taken into custody without incident. Police say the man is being transferred over to EMS to begin mental health treatment.

The scene grew larger Wednesday as more law enforcement responded to attempt to coax the man out of the home.

WRAL News crews at the scene observed at least three law enforcement agencies and 20 police officers.

Police said the man was alone inside the home, reiterating it was not a hostage situation.

Streets were blocked off around the home, but neighbors were able to enter and exit the neighborhood freely.

According to police, there is no threat to the public, and the standoff did not disrupt school bus routes or traffic.
