Man shot at Wilson birthday party was accidentally hit by car, deputies say

A man was hit by a car Friday in Wilson County after he was shot at a birthday party.

WILSON, N.C. — A man was hit by a car Friday in Wilson County after he was shot at a birthday party.

Around 9:30 p.m. Wilson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 5700 block of Woodside Drive/U.S. Highway 264 Alt East.

Deputies found Micheal Deontte Mitchell, 38, of Wilson, lying in the roadway.

Investigators said Mitchell was "accidentally" hit by a car after being shot at a home in the 5600 block of U.S. 264 Alt East, where a birthday party was in progress. 

The case is being investigated as a homicide.
