Man shot at Ting Park, search warrant says victim and suspect planned to meet at park

Just after 1:30 p.m., officers learned a person had been shot at the park. They found a man sitting in a vehicle with a gunshot wound.

Jose Manuel Hernandez Rodriguez was found in Johnston County and arrested Tuesday in connection with the shooting.

Rodriguez, 21, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm into occupied property and discharging a firearm in the city limits.

Through investigation, detectives learned that the victim and suspect, Rodriguez, arranged to meet at Ting Park regarding an ongoing personal dispute.

A search warrant said the two had gotten into an argument earlier in the day on Monday. The search warrant said electronic messages between the victim and suspect indicated that the two were planning to meet at the location where the shooting happened.

As the victim was waiting in the parking lot at the meeting location, the search warrant said Rodriguez and multiple other people showed up, including two cars that were trying to box in the victim.

Police said the victim was assaulted as he waited in his vehicle and was shot through the passenger-side window by Rodriguez, who then left the scene.

Authorities took the victim to an area hospital, where he is in stable condition.

More than a dozen Holly Springs police vehicles were at the scene at one point.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and the park remained open.
