CLINTON, N.C. — One man was killed and another was hurt when an argument turned violent Friday night at a home in Sampson County, authorities said Saturday.

Police were called to a house in the 100 block of Harmon Street at 9:35 p.m., authorities said in a written statement. When emergency workers arrived at the home, they found Anthony Frederick, 51, of Arizona, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is being investigated, and an autopsy will be conducted.

Frederick had a severe laceration on his upper arm.

Police say Frederick's nephew, Jamaal Peterson, 39, of California, cut Frederick with a knife during a family gathering.

Peterson was arrested and charged with murder. He was in the Sampson County Detention Center without bond.

During the on-scene investigation, Frederick's son, Joshua Frederick, charged toward Peterson with a knife.

Investigators used a stun gun to detain him, but authorities said no one was injured from Frederick's actions, and he will not be charged.
