CEDAR GROVE, N.C. — The person accused of stabbing an Orange County man to death early Saturday was arrested Monday afternoon, Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said.

Deputies were called around 8 a.m. Saturday to 5705 Green Pine Road and found 50-year-old Anthony Latta. The call was initially reported as cardiac arrest.

From the start, Blackwood said the crime did not appear to be random, and investigators quickly identified Mori Farrell Jr, of 221 Sawmill Road in Cedar Grove, as a suspect.

Farrell is charged with first-degree murder.

Blackwood said the stabbing might be linked to drugs.

“All too often the crimes we investigate have a linkage to the sale and use of illegal narcotics,” he said.

Farrell was being held in the Orange County Detention Center without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
