Lumberton police officer shot in 'accidental weapon discharge'

A police officer was injured in an "accidental weapon discharge" around 5:15 p.m. Friday in the area of Peterson Drive and Fayetteville Rd in Lumberton, authorities said.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — A police officer was injured in an "accidental weapon discharge" around 5:15 p.m. Friday in the area of Peterson Drive and Fayetteville Rd in Lumberton, authorities said.

The officer was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
