People are always asking me where to take vacation. What's a cool place? What's the most scenic drive? Carolina Conversations attempts to answer those questions and others.

Noshing

Have you been noshing lately? I like the word. I love the restaurant.

I spent most of the weekend in Durham mixing my new "Blue Ridge Reunion" CD with Wes Lachot and John Plymale at Overdub Lane. Not only are they incredibly talented musicians and studio wizards they always have interesting ideas for lunch.

Wes picked the place for Saturday and John did the honors on Sunday. As a nationally acclaimed studio architect Wes is on the road a lot. He tries hard to eat healthy. His restaurant pick for Saturday - McDonald's across the street. "You've got to be kidding," I thought. Wes insisted the salads at McDonald's are great. With great skepticism I ordered the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken. It was terrific. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the salad was fresh and light.

John took us to Nosh on Sunday. Nosh is a cool new restaurant near Duke Hospital. Nosh has lots of great healthy salads but I opted for the Rascal's Razmatazz burger with havarti cheese. Absolutely awesome! One of the best ever. John says Nosh has become the favorite restaurant among his musical clients.

Have you been "noshing" lately? If so, where?

I work across the street from Nosh & we go at least 2 times a week for lunch! The salads are awesome & the egg salad sandwiches are to die for!

"Nosh" really means "to snack on", not really "to eat" as in a whole meal. It's Yiddish, for those of you who might not know.

I am all about McDonald's Grilled Asian salad. It's an Asain Salad that is topped with grilled chicken. I used to crave McD's chicken nuggets- my taste buds have shifted in recent months!!! Absoletely awesome salad that I would go out of my way to get. My other salad craving is at applebee's with their Oriental chicken salad. I like it in the wrap. All the tangy flavors and crisp textures. Yummeroni!!!!!

Nosh is a nice place--at lunch time it is really crowded. All of the people for the Center for Human Genetics descend on it! Saturday my wife and I went to one of my new favorites---Pomodoro's, an Italian restaurant on the corner of 85 and Hillandale Road. The aglio/olio pasta is amazing, if you don't mind getting your clothes drenched with olive oil!

I noshed on a "naked" bison burger with tomatoes at Ted's Montana Grill Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the only thing remotely healthy I had all weekend. I was stage-managing for a play and subsisted mainly on bags of Bugles. Bill, I like the idea about blogging about unusual food combinations! I have a few "recipes" from my younger days.

Can't wait to "nosh" somewhere today!! I have a medical procedure today at 10:30 am, so I have not been able to eat or drink anything today, and I am craving my morning cup of coffee and feel like I could even eat liver (which I dislike), I'm that hungry. I'll be looking forward to checking out the comments from people to get some good ideas for where to go for dinner tonight!!!!
