A Wake County couple spoke out for the first time Wednesday since they were shot at during a road rage incident near Rolesville.

The man and woman, who wanted to remain anonymous said the shooting happened after the driver passed their red Dodge Ram 1500 truck.

“Next thing I know, he’s getting over in the right-hand lane and I have a bullet right by my head,” the husband said. “After that, it was just shot after shot.”

The man said he covered his pregnant fiance as the bullets flew into the car.

“There was a ricochet hole on the ceiling right above her head,” he said. “The only bullet that didn’t pass through the door was the one that hit the passenger door where she was sitting.”

The driver’s fiancee said when the shooter, who was a white man in a green 90s Honda Civic, pulled over, she expected the worst.

“I was fully prepared to take one to the legs, fully prepared,” she said. “I just started screaming, hoping that I would go into shock so I don’t feel it.”

The couple said they have been struggling to get behind the wheel since the shooting.

“Especially at night time, every time I see a pair of headlights that gets too close, it’s almost like PTSD,” the man said.

The couple said there were at least 8 to 10 drivers on the road when the shooting happened, but no one called authorities.

As of Wednesday, the shooter has not been identified.

The couple believes the suspect should be behind bars.

“We’re blessed that nothing happened to either of us,” the man said. “We had the best possible outcome out of the situation, but people like that shouldn’t be on the streets.”

A Wake County Sheriff’s Office representative emphasized the importance of “see something, say something,” because the smallest detail could help get the shooter off the streets.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wake County Sheriff's Office at 919-856-6911.
