Investigation: Inmate found dead in detention facility in Raleigh

The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate at the detention facility in the Public Safety Center on S. Salisbury Street in Raleigh.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate at the detention facility in the Public Safety Center on S. Salisbury Street in Raleigh.

Detention officers found the inmate unresponsive in their cell just after 8 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Detention officers and medical staff immediately rendered aid and called for EMS.

The inmate was pronounced dead shortly after, according to officials.

This is an ongoing investigation, and there is no further information at this time.
