'I see love': Balloon release held for teen found dead at Raleigh park
17-year-old Caprice Burrell was found dead Saturday at Pate Park near Lake Wheeler Road on Saturday evening. Burrell's family believed she was lying on the ground for nearly an hour before someone realized she was unresponsive.
Posted — UpdatedThe balloon release started at 6 p.m. at the park.
"She is looking down on everyone [and] seeing she was loved," Burrell's aunt, Ashley McLean, said. "It is sad she couldn't see that now."
People who were at the park Saturday told WRAL News they believed she was lying on the ground "for a while" before someone realized she was unresponsive.
According to Burrell’s aunt, Ashley McLean, the balloon release also served as a suicide awareness event.
"Mental health is serious," Burrell's mother, Shatona Burrell, said. "I don't think the world takes it seriously enough. No matter what I did, it wasn't enough."
Authorities have not determined an official cause of death, but said they do not believe foul play is involved.
McLean provided a message to teens suffering from mental illnesses.
"Don't give up, keep fighting," she said.
