Historic transfer: NCFC goalkeeper Nick Holliday gets MLS opportunity

Nick Holliday will transfer from North Carolina FC to Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer. The 17-year-old goalkeeper becomes the first-ever NCFC player make the jump from the Raleigh team to the MLS.

North Carolina FC goalkeeper Nick Holliday will have a new team and higher profile in 2024 as part of a historic transfer.

Holliday, 17, will play the 2024 season for Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer. He became the first player from NCFC to earn a direct transfer to an MLS contract.

"We'll miss you dearly, but are so proud," NCFC posted on the social media platform X. "Thanks for letting us be a part of your journey."

Charlotte FC begins its season on Feb. 24 against NYCFC at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

In 2023, Holliday started 13 games for NCFC, making 26 saves and conceding 16 goals. He had a 61% save percentage.

Holliday made improvements from the 2022 season, when he started eight games, making 20 saves an allowing 16 goals while maintaining a 55.6% save percentage for NCFC.

In September 2021, Holliday signed his first professional contract with NCFC at the age of 15.

On June 20, 2021, Holliday made his professional debut against the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to start a match in USL League One or Championship.
