APEX, N.C. — Four people are on the run and a driver was taken into custody Wednesday night after a high-speed chase through multiple counties.

The chase began before 8 p.m. on U.S. Highway 64 in Apex. According to the State Highway Patrol, a trooper attempted to stop a black Kia Soul for speeding 95 mph in a 55 mph zone.

The Kia sped up when the trooper activated blue lights and sirens, and a high-speed chase ensued.

The trooper followed the Kia on U.S. 64 westbound and onto N.C. Highway 751.

The Kia ran off the road and crashed into a ditch near O'Kelly Chapel Road in Chatham County, and troopers said the driver and several passengers jumped out and ran toward the woods nearby.

Jayden Williams, 16, was captured and charged with felony flee to elude arrest.

The other suspects are still being located with the help of a thermal imaging drone.

Investigators determined the car was stolen from Smithfield.

Authorities are still actively attempting to locate four suspects who escaped the vehicle.
