ENFIELD, N.C. — A Halifax County woman has been charged with murder after her 10-year-old sister was stabbed to death.

Deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2000 block of Beaverdam Road just outside of Enfield around 10:30 p.m. on Monday in reference to the report of a missing 10-year-old child.

When deputies arrived, they learned that the mother found the missing child in the backyard, where the child appeared to be dead. Further investigation revealed that the child had been stabbed multiple times.

Investigators believe the victim had been stabbed inside the home and moved outside to the backyard.

Kaneijah Zyir Bradley, 22, was arrested and charged with murder. Bradley has been placed in the Halifax County Detention Center with no bond.

“This is such a sad incident," said Sheriff Tyree Davis. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family."

"We've never heard of anything like this in our neighborhood," said Bernard Day, who lives nearby. "Matter of fact, this is the first time we've heard of anything like this anywhere."

Day said he knew their family members, but didn't know Bradley or the sister who was killed very well.

Bradley's first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 25. In August of 2023, Bradley was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon against a government official and misdemeanor charge of resisting a public officer. In April 2023, she was charged with two felonies for assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury and larceny of a motor vehicle.

"They are in our prayers," Day said. "We are aching for them. Just let God work it out. This is the only thing we can do at this time."

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone that may have additional information is asked to contact Lieutenant R. Somogyi with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
