North Carolina congressional leaders on Tuesday said they are frustrated about a “lack of transparency” regarding plans for a migrant facility in Greensboro.

Senator Thom Tillis, Representative Richard Hudson and other North Carolina congressional Republicans said they were denied information about the Greensboro Influx Care Facility, which will be operational on Friday.

“Our offices were notified late afternoon on Friday, March 1, despite repeated, outstanding requests for answers for operationalizing the facility,” Republicans said in a letter.

In 2023, the United States Department of Health and Human Services secured the building as a shelter for children ages 13 to 17.

The shelter would provide temporary shelter — about two or three weeks — while family members and sponsors are located.

The facility will have capacity for up to 800 beds.

The group also called President Joe Biden’s immigration policies “a humanitarian crisis,” adding they don’t think there is a need for a migrant facility more than 2,000 miles away from the border.

“It is time for President Biden to take action to secure our border and address the crisis of unaccompanied minor migration with real solutions,” the group said.

In addition to more transparency, the group said they've contacted Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra about any future plans regarding the facility.
