CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A Greensboro teen has been charged in a Chapel Hill carjacking, and police said they are searching for more people in the Wednesday morning incident.

A woman reported that several people approached her in the 900 block of North Columbia Street shortly before 5 a.m., one of whom had a gun, and forced her to give up her car, police said. The robbers also took her backpack and wallet, according to a police report.

The robbers fled in two vehicles, and when officers were able to locate the vehicles, the suspects fled on foot, police said.

Jahquez A. Mitchell, 17, was apprehended while trying to escape, police said. He is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a vehicle and misdemeanor resisting public officer and was being held Friday in the Orange County jail under $125,000 bond.

Investigators determined the second vehicle had been reported stolen out of Durham, police said.

Anyone with information about the carjacking or the identities of the other robbers is asked to call the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.
