I don't know if I mentioned this but I had 2 uncles (brothers) in WW2 and uncle Clyde was killed in angio beach, but some how when the memorial went up in our small town thy had put my uncle Allen's name on the monument. He'd come down from NJ to visit every year and laugh at the monument. They were going to fix it but he said no, it made him laugh. I just can't imagine what those poor folks went though. Our soldiers today don't know cold, hunger and no way out when wounded. They are just as brave but I too think having an outlet and also the good communications availabe is a big plus in our times today.

also watched Band of Brothers the series. People have no idea these days about what real war is. Jake Wildstar

Jake I usually don't comment on a post I see when going to some one's profile but I had to tell you how right you are on this. I have also seen the band of brothers and uncles to tell of WW1 and WW2, even Vietnam wasn't a piece on cake. But in wars since ww2, our men do get to correspond and in this war they have so many ways of communicating with family and friends. When my husband was in Nam sometimes the only mail I got was a cut up ration container made like a post card and it would be so muddy and stuff I could hardly read it. Once it had a big mosquito remains squashed on the back. War is hell and it is costly but sometimes it is necessary. I personally think this war had become necessary. You stay safe and I will always appreciate what you've given back to this country to protect it. Just wanted you to know that.

"The next book I have is about Kit Carson."

Wow...when I hear Kit Carson I think of a 72 hour no sleep FTX...ahhhh, the good ol' Cold War days....

"Im reading the book Ambrose wrote about Lewis and Clark "Undaunted Courage""

Next on my list - Lewis and Clark were surveyors though often cited as 'explorers' - surveying is not exactly glamorous.

Currently reading " A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs' Court" for some escapism.....

Jake, thank you for your kind words. I feel as if I've been battling tonight. Defending Texas and our Country. First of all, thank you for your service. If you go to Galveston you will pass by Texas City. It is known for all of its refineries. Also, the explosion in '42. My father had a hand in building all of them. He retired 20 years ago. A new refinery has not been built since. If you pass by Texas City notice what was once Carbide. It is now a ghost refinery being sold for parts. How sad.

Our country is in much need of tapping into it's own resources and building new refineries, but most of all putting those men and women back to work.

Have you read Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose - it's an eye opener to the hideous conditions of life for Easy Co. of the 506th PIR.

You probably have - but everyone should read it before they comment on how bad the Iraq war was handled.

I miss the company of soldiers - of coure as an 82B I never got a chance to put a knife in my teeth run up hills and kill people, but someone had to show the 12Bs where the bridge was supposed to be.....

N.C. is a great place. I LOVE Texas but N.C. will always be home.

No problem! Dh retires 1 Jan and we have no reason to move.Pretty good place to live.Dh has done two tours in the stan and Brian(son) one. Dh has been on both sides.Brian was in the chow.

You and Dh would get along well!I like shooting too.If you and yours are ever towards Bragg let us know.Y'all will have a home cooked meal! Steph
