And it's sad for the "good" teachers who are not being paid for the difficult task they have in educating the students that do not have disipline or help at home. MaysMom

I'm sure that is the hardest task of all the teachers. Does anyone know what happened and what era did we loose control of the discipline of children. How did it happen that we can have kids not older than 6-8 control their parents and teachers. Heaven forbid how unruly they have gotten by their teen age years. The teachers that do say and try to stick it out, deserve more for their education requirements. I'd of never expected this in my lifetime.

I agree with you...we all complained about the education system in Az....until we came here! Didn't know just how good we had it! The upper level of education in NC is great....but high school and grade school in the county I live is sorely lacking! We had several friend move to this area when we did...three were teachers...when they found out the salaries here..they were shocked...(one had a masters)they are now working in different fields. They said they could make more money at Walmart! Sad state of affairs. So sad for the students of NC who need a decent education! And it's sad for the "good" teachers who are not being paid for the difficult task they have in educating the students that do not have disipline or help at home.

Welcome to golo, Billybob! That's a tough issue you're tackling. Salaries need to be competitive in order to attract the best and brightest. Not until the right people are in place will conditions improve. I hope you will blog on this soon.

Hey Billybob - Education reform is a good topic. Having watched my 2 kids go thru WCPSS, there are clarly some issues that need to be adressed.

We all know the NCAE is for sale to the highest bidder. As a former teacher, they know Perdue will give the highest raises. I have no problem with raises, but the quality must rise as well. This is a blasphemy to the education system. You will continue to pay for less quality until there is massive reform to the NC educational system. GOD SAVE US!
