about con amor
- I feel that god created this earth for all mankind. There are no boarders in heaven. The ones who make it there, will all live together, regardless of their color, language, or country of birth. I dont discriminate and I dont like people who do!! Con Amor is spanish meaning "with love" (pron:cun amoor). Please take the time to look at my image galleries if you'd like. Many of you would like to know why I feel the way that I do about immigration issues. It is very hard to type up a 9 year nightmare, into a few short words, but I'm going to try..... At the end of 1998 huricane mitch hit Central America and destroyed every thing in its path. El Salvador is where my husband is from. The very poor living conditions became 100 times worse. Lives, homes, and crops were destroyed. So, the goverment of the United States offered to let people in from the countries hit hardest by the huricane and grant them TPS (temporary protection statice) ONCE they got to the boarder. So thousands of people left walking headed to the US. While in Mexico, thousands were robbed, beaten, raped and murdered by Mexican citizens, police, and immigration workers. But many, by the grace and leadership of god, made it. Once they made it into the US, they were held and processed by the us immigration. Everyone who passed the criminal record checks, and had no infectious diseases, were released into the country with tps papers. Now, they were all told that tps is temporary. BUT, they were also given, by immigration, a list of aplications and instructions that they needed to complete in order to have a perm statice in the US. They were ALL told that the tps would keep them safe until the process was complete, and as long as they never got any criminal conviction, and filled out all of the needed aplications, then they would one day be permenent. In 1999 I met my husband. I knew right away that we would one day be married, and in 2001 we were. Also, since he had a REAL social security number, we were able to get a loan from the bank to buy our land and home. In 2003 we had our first son, and in 2005 we had another. We were the perfect happy American family. We continued to pay hudreds of dollars for aplication after aplication to continue working on getting my husband permanent, and every year he renewed his tps. He never had any run in with the law. Not even a minor ticket. He took care of his kids, and we also took financial care his elderly parents, and brothers and sisters in El Salvador. Then, at the end of 2006, he got a letter from immigration stating that his tps would not be renewed for 2007. The letter gave him 30 days to leave the US, or a court date to go to Atlanta Ga and appeal. Well, we thought that there must be some mistake, after all, we had done everything just as we were instructed by immigration to do. So we were not worried, we got all of his recipts and coppies of all of the aplications ($6000 worth), and we drove to Atl Ga for the appeal court. Well, the court was over flowing with hundreds of others, with our exact same story. And the judge, basicly told them all "tuff luck" and denied the appeals, and took them all into custody, on the spot. Many had their american citizen children with them, and if no one was there to take the kids, then they too were shipped out. The people could not go get their affairs in order or anything. They did not think that they would be deported, because they had done everything as told. I even asked the judge, what would happen to my husbands social security, would it be sent to him in el salvador when he's old? And the judge said "yeh right". So, he was sent out with just the clothes on his back. I had been to El Salvador twice to spend time with his family, and I knew the poverty that they were forced to live in. Even with money, they could not get power in their adobe (mud) home, because the electric company would not run electricity into the remote area for just one house hold. Well, I immediately got on the phone with our lawyer, who informed me that by him being deported, all of his applications that were "in process" were now voided out of the system, and denied. And he would have to wait 5 years before he could re-aplply. And we would have to repay all the fees all over again, and in my oppinion, be ripped off all over again. A few months later, my sister-in law and her husband, got the same letter as my husband. I begged and pleaded with them to not go to that court. I told them that it was a set-up , but they went any way. And i watched their 2 kids for them to go. I knew that they wouldnt be back, but they thought that they would. And of course, I was right. They owned their house, and were set up on a 30 year morgage. I could'nt afford to make my payments, and theirs too, so they asked me to try to sell it for just enough to pay it off. I tried, but it was not my home to sell, and I could not legaly do so. So, their home was lost to the bank.. As well as their cars, and their good names. So, to sum things up... Were these people treated fairly? HELL NO! Will I do anything possible, legal or not to get them back with their families? OF COURSE I WILL! This is not happening to a handful of people, It is happening to THOUSANDS! Families should not be broken, and children should not be orphaned due to lies of the US goverment! I'm just praying for a change in our government soon. Not having papers, does not make a person a criminal in god eyes. God is the one who lead these people here in the first place. The Devil stepped in and messed things up, But God will bring these families back together again. Here is a related blog. http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/2501176/
