Edit Group Profile
The following settings are found under the "edit group profile" tool, which is found on the group's profile page.
Group name: The name of the group.
Golo Group URL: The URL of the group, for example "mygroup.golo.com". When email is enabled, this will also serve as the email address of your group, for example "mygroup@golo.com".
Announcement: This is an area to include any type of information or announcement and is shown on the group's profile page.
Group website: A website of the group outside of Golo.
**Group profile information can only be edited by the groups owner and group admins.
Group Settings
These settings determine to what extent the group and content created by members of the group can be viewed. In other words:
How do I control who can see my groups profile page?
- Publicly viewable: Anyone can view the group and it's content. (Members and non-members)
- Members only: Only group members can view the group and it's content.
- Hidden: No one except the owner can view the group or it's content.
Note: The various settings can also be applied to any content within the group. For example, your group can be publicly viewable, while a single blog post within the group can be set to be viewed by members only.
Membership Policy:
- Open Membership: Anyone can join at anytime.
- Membership by application: A person must apply to join, and either the group owner or an admin must approve the membership.
- Membership by invitation: A person can only become a member if invited.
Email Policy:
- Enable group email: All group members can email each other using the group email address.
- Enable group email notices only: The owner and all group admins can send an email to the group from the group's profile page. This does not allow group members to send e-mails.
- No group email: Group email is totally disabled.
Note: Any emails sent to the group from a non-member email address will always be ignored.
Contact Member: Can be the owner, or any editor or admin of the group. To assign a group member as the contact member, first use the "manage group members" tool to upgrade thier status to editor or admin.
Category and Location: Used to categorize the group for searching and browsing.
Group Permissions
Group permissions can be used by the group owner to let other group members help manage the group. In other words:
Who can do what within in my group??
- Member: group members can view and comment on all group content, and send email to the other members via the group email address (if the email feature is enabled by the group admins).
**Note: Non-group members will be able to view and comment on the group content unless the group is set to "members only."
- Editor: group editors can do everything a group member can do, in addition to creating and editing all group content (blog posts and image galleries.) An editor can also delete comments from all content (including the group profile.)
- Admin: group admins can do everything a group editor can do, in addition to updating the group announcement displayed on the groups main page, and editing the group description and logo. Admins can also manage the group membership and upgrade or downgrade the status of all members.
- Owner: the group owner can do everything a group admin can do, in addition to controlling the group's settings.
