When you were a child, did you ever do or say something that totally shocked the adults in your life? Something that was totally innocent on your behalf, something you had no idea was even remotely wrong to do or say, and then wondered why every adult in the room just stopped breathing?
Mohawk's blog made me think of a time I did just that
I was the oldest of my siblings and there were no children that lived close to us. We lived in an apartment building where only 2 apartments were occupied, the one I lived in and the one my Granny and Pop lived in.
Every weekend, my aunt would come and leave her children for my Granny to watch for the weekend. There was a much much older boy (that ignored me totally) and an infant/toddler girl, then there was my male cousin that was 5 years older than I was. He taught me how to climb trees, shoot a slingshot, play on top of the house, blow things up with firecrackers, ride a bike without training wheels, etc
Then once a month, another male cousin would come stay at Granny's. He was 4 years older than I was. When he was there, my other cousin totally ignored me. I am not good at being ignored, so I followed them all over and generally made myself as annoying as I could.
One Sunday afternoon, ALL of the aunts and uncles were sitting in my Granny's living room and my 2 cousins were in the back bedroom. I wanted IN and they had the door locked. I pounded, cried, pouted, etc (I was 5 years old) until they said "we are in here F**ing and you can't come in"
I had no idea what that word meant but I wanted IN on whatever they were doing. So, what does a child do when thwarted completely and totally?
Down the hall I went to TATTLE
I marched myself into the living room and announced in a very loud voice:
XX and XX are in the back bedroom F**ing and won't let me in. I wanna F**ck too!
I was not allowed to play with them anymore that day
