suggestions for department holiday luncheon

Published Dec. 1, 2008

I have been given the task of finding a restaurant for our department holiday luncheon.  Located in Durham and we have 19 people. We will need a private room if at all possible.  Looking at December 16 or 17.  Any restaurant suggestions out there?

"do you check the rating for every restaurant you ever been in before sitting down and eating there?"

Of course. Having worked in the food service industry, I am aware of the "gotchas" when dining out. I also check the WRAL info on Restaurant's Sanitary Grades.

Again, unless I know you and have some idea of what kind of shape your kitchen is in, I don't want to eat your food.

We had friends that let their cat walk on the counters. I pointed out that the danm cat just had taken a trip to the litter box and was tracking that stuff on their counters. Didn't bother them. Didn't eat at their house.

I had another friend who swore their cat didn't walk on their counters. I suggested they put flour on the counter before we went out to dinner, and see if the cat got on the counter. Sure enough, little cat prints on the counter.

I don't want cat fecal matter in my food or germs from someone that doesn't bother to wash their hands.

The rating is required to be posted by the register or in plain view of the dining public. If it's not, we ask to see it.

God bless.

Gandalf6 - "do you check the rating for every restaurant you ever been in before sitting down and eating there???"

Yep! And if it's not an A, we walk back out.

My brother was a chef for years. The horror stories I've heard. Yikes!

God bless.

Gandalf, I do check the ratings and will walk out.

MiMi's in Cary -- great atmosphere inside and everything I've had there I've enjoyed.

"Some people don't have sanitary cooking habits." do you check the rating for every restaurant you ever been in before sitting down and eating there???

Rey's in Cary

JOO

Second Empire Tavern is really good. They have a room that would fit that many people. The Tavern menu is a bit cheaper than the upstairs.

I won't eat at a pot-luck event. Who knows what kind of shape your fellow employee's kitchens are in. Some people don't have sanitary cooking habits.

Our monthly cookouts generally morphed into a drinking party more than a cooking one. The Mexican one with the Margaritas was the hands down winner. We did Maggianos for the office Christmas party one year and it was very nice. They have private rooms at Kurama the Japanese place right there on the Blvd. We also have done the Italian place, that's name escapes me, right there across from Target. There is a also a place on Hillandale Road called Papa's Grill that has private rooms and excellent food.

Good luck trying to find something this late in the year. We use to start looking in March.

Praying for your quest.

God bless.

Rev. RB
